Johan Solberg is a bookbinder, letterpress printer, papermaker and a recent MFA graduate in Book Arts from the University of Iowa Center for the Book in the United States. His work explores the intersection of artistic research and craft, combining both historical and contemporary techniques and materials. Solberg’s thesis work was historical research on early bookbinding and papermaking in Uzbekistan. His conceptual book works explore personal stories that he tries to relate to the collective human consciousness.  

 

Solberg and his partner Radha Pandey is currently developing Halden Bookworks a book arts center in Halden, Norway with studios for letterpress printing, bookbinding, and papermaking.
